What is Anglicanism?
“...….., two testaments, three creeds, four general councils, five centuries, and the series of Fathers in that period – the centuries that is, before Constantine, and two after, determine the boundary of our faith.”
― Lancelot Andrewes
We are Evangelical
The Anglican Communion is the largest Evangelical and Protestant Church in the World with 85 Million adherents. Anglicanism adheres to the doctrine of salvation being by faith alone, through the Grace of God on the Cross and through the Resurrection of Christ. Some of the most influential Evangelicals were Anglicans, such as John and Charles Wesley, George Whitefield, C.S. Lewis, J.I. Packer, and N.T. Wright.
We are Historical
The the year of our Lord, 597, Augustine of Canterbury was Consecrated as our first Archbishop. The Anglican church left the Roman Catholic Church during the Reformation in the 1500s but did not fully embrace the more radical elements of the continental reformers such as Luther and Calvin. Anglicanism was always a middle way between Catholicism and Protestantism. We adhere to the Nicene Creed, the 39 Articles, and the Old and New Testaments.
We are Sacramental
Anglicans hold to two primary centralities in the life of the Church and the Christian, Word and Sacrament. We hold to the biblical and historical view that Baptism and the Eucharist are a means of Grace and Sanctification in ones life. Eucharist is usually celebrated every Sunday, as our Lord commanded. While we can have a large range of modern and contemporary services to very very Catholic services, you will always find a central theme of service and theology running like a mighty river through our Churches.
